Frequently Asked Questions

1. Am I eligible? 

Occasional Teachers who are currently in an LTO of greater than 60 working days or 90 calendar days (the lesser of the two) and those that reach this threshold will be included in the ETFO benefits.

Save your receipts because you can submit retroactively.

2. How and when will I be contacted?

Once you are eligible, you will receive an enrollment email to your board email address. This can take up to 4 weeks from the start of your eligibility. Save your receipts because you can submit retroactively.

3. Cost and Coverage

Premiums are covered on a pro-rated basis. 1.0 FTE = 100% coverage. Full costings of partial premium coverage is provided upon registration. The program is voluntary if you are less then 1.0 FTE.

4. What happens during a non-LTO period

Following your first LTO, in which you have access to the ETFO benefits, you will be eligible for the Occasional and Casual Members (OCM) Benefits Plan. https://www.otip.com/Group-Benefits/Occasional-Casual.

Alternatively, there is also https://www.otip.com/occasional-employees-insurance, for those that have yet to, or choose not to do a LTO.

5. Will I have to prove insurability when I become eligible or get another LTO?

No, each time that a member enters into an eligible LTO they will be able to enter the benefit plan and will not need to prove insurability.
