Bargaining update (8/28)

August 28

At this time, Central Bargaining negotiations are almost starting, but ETFO Provincial is still awaiting the first meeting date with the government and OPSBA.

The government is currently beginning negotiations with all the education worker unions, and you have likely heard a lot in the media.
The education workers represented by CUPE will be taking a strike vote later in September, this does not mean a strike or job action would begin right away. The WRDSB does not have any employees which are included in CUPE, and we would not be impacted by any job action by CUPE (none is scheduled at this time).

WROTL has not begun negotiations with the WRDSB at this time.

OVERVIEW OF HOW BARGAINING WORKS
Collective Bargaining is a two-tiered process consisting of “Central Bargaining” and “Local Bargaining”

“Central Bargaining” refers to the negotiations between ETFO Provincial and OPSBA (Ontario Public School Boards’ Association), who negotiates representing the government. These negotiations are for all Teachers and Occasional Teachers represented by ETFO.

“Local Bargaining” refers to the negotiations between WROTL and the WRDSB on specific items and issues related to our members.

Central Bargaining updates will be sent out directly to you from ETFO provincial. Please register for their secure website if you have not already done so, and ensure ETFO Provincial has your correct contact information.

Local Bargaining updates will be sent from WROTL to members via our newsletters and/or bargaining update emails. Please ensure the WROTL office has your correct email information. Bargaining updates may be posted on our WROTL secure site in the near future.
